After a data leak, fake advisers target pension savings

According to a case published on cybercrimepolice.ch on 14 October 2026, the IT systems of a software provider working for a pension fund were hit by ransomware at the end of September 2026, leading to a data leak. Names, addresses and phone numbers are affected, and possibly also information on salaries and pension savings. Fraudsters may use this data to call members while posing as financial advisers or brokers.

The data lets them tailor their pitch to the person's financial situation, which makes it convincing. The police point out that knowing personal details does not prove who the caller is. They advise against investing under pressure from an unsolicited call and recommend checking the provider's identity through official channels.

In practiceBe wary of any unexpected call offering to move your pension savings, even if the caller knows your name and situation. Give out no information and hang up. If you have already paid money, tell your bank, keep the evidence and report it to the cantonal police.

According to Zurich cantonal police, cybercrimepolice.ch, case of 14 October 2026.
